Wilhelm Matzat

Wilhelm Matzat (born October 19, 1930 in Tsingtau ; † October 21, 2016 in Bonn ) was a German geographer and professor (1969 to 1995) of geography at the University of Bonn .

Life

Matzat studied geography, geology and history in Erlangen, Göttingen, Frankfurt / Main and Worcester / Massachusetts. In Frankfurt he received his doctorate in 1961 with a dissertation on field geographic studies in building land and the rear Odenwald as a Dr. phil. nat. In 1969 he completed his habilitation there. From 1969 to 1979 Matzat was scientific advisor and professor at the University of Bonn. In 1980 he was appointed to a C4 professorship. His focus was the geography of settlements in Germany, northern Italy and England as well as the Chinese province of Shandong . After his retirement in 1995, he ran the website www.tsingtau.org and published about the Tsingtau Land Regulations.
