Wilhelm Michler

Wilhelm Michler (born December 27, 1846 in Schmerbach, today in Creglingen , † November 27, 1889 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a German chemist .

Michler was a student of Victor Meyer , with whom he received his doctorate in Zurich in 1874 . He then taught from 1875 to 1882 as a private lecturer at the ETH Zurich . In 1882 he moved to Brazil , where he mainly worked on natural substances of tropical origin and taught technical chemistry at the Polytechnic School in Rio de Janeiro.

Michler's ketone , a basic chemical for the synthesis of dyes , is named after him .
