Wilhelm Moritz Keferstein

Wilhelm Moritz Keferstein (born June 7, 1833 in Winsen (Luhe) , † January 25, 1870 in Göttingen ) was a German zoologist and comparative anatomist at the Georg August University of Göttingen .

Life

After studying hydraulic engineering in Hanover , Keferstein moved to Göttingen in 1852 to study medicine at the Georg August University . In 1857 he became an assistant at the Physiological Institute, in 1859 a private lecturer, in 1861 an associate professor and in 1868 a full professor of zoology in Göttingen. The building of the Natural History Museum goes back to his initiative. He died in 1870. In 1907 a Göttingen memorial plaque was attached to his last house at Groner Landstrasse 11 . On June 8, 1862 ( matriculation no. 1970 ) he was elected a member of the Leopoldina with the nickname Eschscholtz . From 1861 he was an assessor and from 1866 a full member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .
