Wilhelm Neuwirth ( CanReg ) (born March 12, 1941 in Enns , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic religious . From 1987 to 2002 he was Abbot General of the Augustinian Canons and between 1977 and 2005 provost of the Augustinian Canons of St. Florian .

Life

After attending the Wilhering Collegiate High School , Wilhelm Neuwirth entered the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of St. Florian in Upper Austria in 1960, and in 1961 made his professorship. In 1966 he was ordained a priest and initially worked as a chaplain in Ried, Vöcklabruck and Linz-Kleinmünchen .

In 1977 he was elected provost of the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of St. Florian near Linz as the successor to the deceased provost Johannes Zauner, for a ten-year term . In 1987 he was elected for life. In 2005 he handed over the office to Johann Holzinger .

From 1987 to 2002 he was also Abbot General of the Austrian Congregation for Canons and a member of the board of the Superior Conference of the Austrian Male Orders .

Honors

In 2002 he was appointed to the Austrian Chamber of Commerce for his leadership of the monastery and the various functions in church and society. He is an honorary member of the Catholic student union of the K.Ö.HV Franco-Bavaria Vienna in the ÖCV .
