Wilhelm Olejnik

Wilhelm Olejnik (born January 4, 1888 in Dammratschhammer , Opole district , † June 5, 1967 ) was a social democratic local and state politician.

Olejnik first learned the mason trade and worked in this until 1908. Since then he has worked in mining.

From 1907 Olejnik was a union member and from 1912 he also belonged to the SPD . In 1919 he became chairman of the socialist youth workers in Gladbeck . From 1922 he was deputy chairman of the SPD local association and from 1926 a member of the board of the Recklinghausen subdistrict . Between 1929 and 1933 Olejnik was a city councilor and chairman of the social democratic group in Gladbeck.

After the beginning of the National Socialist rule he was arrested several times by the Gestapo . Olejnik then went into exile.

From June to October 1946 he was Lord Mayor of Gladbeck. Between 1946 and 1948 Olejnik was again a city councilor in Gladbeck and parliamentary group leader. He was also on the board of the SPD in Gladbeck and in the subdistrict.

In 1946 Olejnik was a member of the Westphalia Provincial Council and from 1953 to 1956 of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Assembly . He was also in 1946 and 1947 a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was then directly elected member of the constituency of Gladbeck for the first four legislative periods until 1962.

In Gladbeck a street is named after Wilhelm Olejnik.
