Wilhelm Peetz
Wilhelm Peetz (born February 25, 1892 in Elmshorn ; † October 3, 1935 in the Esterwegen concentration camp ) was a German communist resistance fighter against National Socialism .
Life
Peetz was a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and was active against the rise of National Socialism during the Weimar Republic . After the transfer of power to the NSDAP in 1933, he continued this activity illegally. He was from the Gestapo arrested by a court for " conspiracy to commit high treason " to a penitentiary sentenced and taken to the concentration camp at Esterwegen. Here he suffered cruel harassment from SS men several times . He died of the injuries he suffered.
Honor
- On April 20, 2010, in memory of Wilhelm Peetz, a stumbling block was laid in front of his former home on Klaus-Groth-Promenade 28 in Elmshorn by the Cologne action artist Gunter Demnig .
