The trained carpenter was from 1945 to 1948 and from 1956 to 1959 Chairman of the City Council of Bad Münder am Deister. In addition, he was a member of the Springer district council and from January 23, 1948 to January 5, 1949, district administrator of the then Springe district .

When, after the occupation of Bad Münder am Deister by US units on April 8, 1945, forced laborers wanted to plunder shops , he found the US city commandant's hearing and was able to prevent this. Two months later, he was able to prevent the British military government from clearing large areas of forest. When the more than 1,400 expellees from Silesia, East and West Prussia were joined by a further thousand from East Germany, he and his helpers organized people's kitchens as well as sewing and warming rooms .

In 1954 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit as a “helper from the very beginning” for his commitment to displaced persons and refugees. The following year he was made an honorary citizen of Bad Münder am Deister.

Mayor Remmer Home

A hut on Osterberg in the Süntel was named after him in 1982, soon after the SPD took over. This was built by the workers' youth from 1921 to 1923 and went to the Reichsbund in 1933 and was then confiscated by the Hitler Youth . After 1945 the falcons moved back in and from 1950 the workers welfare organization used the site for children's recreation. In the 1960s, the youth organization from Hannover-Linden took over the administration. The SPD local association Bad Münder took over the Osterbergheim around 1979 . As a result of maintenance costs, an agreement was reached with the private forest owner in mid-December 2018 on the end of the lease.
