Wilhelm Schäffer (politician, 1954)

Wilhelm Schäffer (born July 26, 1954 in Aachen ) is a German political official . From 2010 to 2017 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Integration and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Schäffer went to school in Aachen and passed the Abitur there in 1973 . After military service in Varel he first returned to Aachen and took 1974 at the RWTH a study of the economics on. In 1976 he moved to Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz for his main studies in economics . After graduating in 1980, he worked as a research assistant at RWTH Aachen University until 1987 , during which time he did his doctorate.

From 1987 to 1988 Schäffer worked as a technology consultant in Oberhausen , then he became department head at the German Federation of Trade Unions . In 1991 he joined the administration of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia: Schäffer became group leader in the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs. From 1995 to 2010 he headed the “Labor and Qualification” department as ministerial director in the relevant department of the state government .

On July 16, 2010, Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft appointed him State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Integration and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. After the formation of the new state government under the leadership of Armin Laschet , he left office on June 30, 2017.

Wilhelm Schäffer is married and has one son.
