from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm Schüssele (born November 23, 1840 in Karlsruhe , † March 4, 1905 in Heidelberg , buried in Karlsruhe) was a city councilor in Karlsruhe.

Life

Schüssele studied at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic and became a member of the Corps Saxonia Karlsruhe in 1859 .

From 1871, Schüssele was a member of the Karlsruhe Citizens' Committee for the National Liberals and from 1881 to 1892 a member of the executive board of the city council. In 1892 he was elected to the city council. In this function he was a member of the municipal Rhine port commission and had a decisive influence on the construction of the Rhine port in Karlsruhe , which was put into operation in 1901.

Schüssele was a member of the administrative boards of the pension fund and the Karl Friedrich, Leopold and Sophien Foundation. In addition, he founded the Baden Association for the Promotion of the Rhine Canal together with Karlsruhe industrialists and tradesmen in October 1893 , and he was elected chairman. The aim of the association was to build a side canal on the right bank of the Upper Rhine. It did not come to fruition. Instead, a low-water fairway was created as part of the current regulation. He was a member of the Karlsruhe Freemason Lodge Leopold zur Loyalty .

In 1896, Schüssele became an honorary member of his corps and in 1903 became the first board member of the newly founded AHV. After his death in Karlsruhe in 1927, Schüsselestrasse was named after him.
