Wilhelm Schulze (veterinarian)

Wilhelm Schulze (born December 10, 1920 in Leipzig - Möckern ; † December 30, 2002 in Hanover ) was a German veterinarian.

Life

Wilhelm Schulze studied veterinary medicine at the University of Leipzig and the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover . In Hanover he became a member of the Corps Hannoverania Hanover. In 1944 he was promoted to Dr. med. vet. PhD. In 1949 he completed his habilitation in clinical veterinary medicine in Leipzig, where he was appointed associate professor and director of the clinic for small pets in 1950 and full professor in 1953. In 1952 he was elected Dean of the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Leipzig. In 1957 he accepted a position at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover as a full professor and successor to Edmund Hupka . As its director, he converted the medical-forensic clinic into a clinic for small cloven-hoofed animals and forensic medicine and an outpatient clinic. In just a few years he brought the clinic worldwide recognition in the field of swine diseases and their treatment. In 1984 he retired.

Schulze wrote more than 500 publications as well as several textbooks that appeared in multiple editions. From 1964 to 1980 he was co-editor of the Deutsche Tierärztliche Wochenschrift. During his professorship in Leipzig, he was a member of the German Academy for Agricultural Sciences from 1951 to 1957. In 1964 he was appointed to the Royal Flemish Academy of Medicine in Brussels.
