Wilhelm Heinrich Spangenberg (born October 16, 1819 in Hamburg , † April 25, 1892 in Hameln ) was a farmer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Spangenberg was a son of the Hamburg doctor Georg August Spangenberg . He attended high school in Lübeck and the Carolinum Braunschweig . He became a farmer on the Ohsen domain . From 1870 he was a member of the Landes-Ökonomie-Kolleg Berlin and from 1858 President of the Hameln Agricultural Association . From 1850 he was a member of the Central Committee of the Royal Hanoverian Agricultural Society and honorary member of the Agricultural Association for Halberstadt .

Spangenberg worked for various agricultural journals. In 1876 he claimed about the reproduction of the eels that these fish wrapped themselves in balls in the brackish water, pushing their mucus into their interior by constant rubbing, and "with the help of nature" the young animals emerged from this slime mass.

From 1870 to 1892 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives and from January to May 1877 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Hanover District 9 (Hameln) and the Free Conservative Party . First, with 9019 votes each, Spangenberg, considered liberal, was tied with his anti-Prussian and pro-Polish competitor Ernst Ludwig von Lenthe , then with 9019 to 9017 votes in favor of Spangenberg. However, the election was cashed on May 2, 1877 after irregularities were found in several polling stations. The by-election on September 12, 1877, Spangenberg lost to Lenthe with 5613 to 6862 votes.
