Wilhelm Urban (politician)

Wilhelm Urban (born August 28, 1908 in Brunebeck , † February 8, 1973 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school and secondary school, Urban first went to commercial school and then attended the Schloss Tinz home elementary school near Gera . He then worked as a glass blower, home educator and technical businessman. In 1922 he had also joined the union.

After the " takeover " of the National Socialists, Urban was reprimanded as a home educator for political reasons in 1933. He then joined the resistance movement, in which he was active until the end of the war. In 1938 he was arrested and subsequently sentenced to two years in prison by the First Senate of the People's Court . After his release, he was assigned to the parole battalion .

Political party

Urban joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) in 1923 and joined the SPD in 1926. From 1945 to 1949 he was chairman of the SPD district association of the Lichtenberg district . He was also a member of the state executive committee of the Berlin Social Democrats .

MP

Urban was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives from 1946 to 1950 (then: City Council ). He was a member of the German Bundestag as a Berlin member from 1961 to 1969.

Public offices

After the end of the war, Urban served as city councilor for public education in the Lichtenberg district. After the division of Berlin, he took on the same function in the Kreuzberg district .
