Wilhelm Wittje

Hinrich Wilhelm Wittje (born January 30, 1880 in Delfshausen ; † October 1, 1946 in Großenmeer -Barghorn) was a German politician ( DDP, DStP , FDP ). From 1923 to 1931 he was a member of the Oldenburg Landtag and from 1945 to 1946 mayor of the large community of Moorriem .

Life

From 1890 on, Wittje earned his living in agriculture with odd jobs cutting peat in the moors and in the harbor. In 1904 he became a tenant in Delfshausen and from 1907 he worked as a farmer in Barghorn. In 1916 he was a member of the school board in Großenmeer and in 1917 he was district chairman. He also acted as managing director of the Oldenburger Bauernbund.

Wittje joined the liberal democratic DDP in 1924 was a councilor in Großenmeer. He was a member of the supervisory board of the farmers' cooperative of the savings and loan association and a member of the board of directors of the egg sales cooperative and the electricity cooperative. In June 1923 he was elected to the Oldenburg Landtag for the first time, to which he was a member until 1931. In the state parliament he was consistently a member of the administrative committee.

Attacked by political opponents as early as 1923/24, Wittje's house was burned down in 1931. In 1933 the SA searched his house.

After the Second World War , the British military administration installed him as mayor of the large community of Moorriem and, following the first free local election, he was confirmed in office in 1946. Furthermore, he was - meanwhile joined the FDP - a member of the district council in the Wesermarsch district .

Wilhelm Wittje was married and had four children.
