Wilhelmine Hagen

Wilhelmine Hagen (born July 5, 1910 in Cologne , † 1996 in Bonn ) was a German historian and numismatist . In 1943 she was the first post-doctoral candidate at the University of Bonn .

life and work

Wilhelmine Hagen studied archeology , history , Latin and Egyptian at the University of Bonn. In 1934 she was working Imperial period Gagatarbeiten from the Rhenish Germania PhD , a work whose horizon was enough contrary to the title, to northern Italy, and even Anna Rosa Termini Storti almost 60 years later, the "still consistent and accurate investigation to Use of Gagat and Other Related Fossil Carbons in Roman Times ”.

After her father Joseph Hagen retired in 1937, Hagen took over the management of the coin cabinet in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum . In 1943 she was the first woman to be awarded the Venia Legendi at the University of Bonn . Her habilitation thesis was entitled Der Münzschatz von Metternich from the time of Emperor Magnentius . Until 1975 she worked as a numismatics lecturer in Bonn.

The Wilhelmine Hagen grant for female postdocs has existed in Bonn since 2014 .
