Wilhelmine Elector
Wilhelmine "Nanny" Elector (born August 23, 1892 in Bordesholm as Wilhelmine Röschmann , † February 18, 1945 in Schleswig ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic .
Live and act
Röschmann attended the village school in the district of Eiderstede in Bordesholm from 1898 to 1907. She then worked as a domestic servant in Kiel for nine years. She took the name Kurfürst in 1916 after marrying the mechanical engineering journeyman Hermann Kurfürst. After joining the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) as a young woman, the Elector began to be politically active in public in 1920. Together with Emma Drewanz, she led the first SPD women's group in Groß-Kiel. In 1924 she became a city councilor in Kiel .
In the Reichstag election of May 1928 , the Elector was elected as a candidate of the SPD for constituency 35 (Mecklenburg) in the Reichstag , to which she belonged until the election in September 1930 . She was also a member of the board of directors of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt in Schleswig-Holstein.
The seizure of the Nazis followed in 1933 banning the SPD, which also Nanny Elector was affected. She was excluded from exercising her mandate in June 1933 and could no longer be a member of the executive committee of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt. On November 5, 1933, Nanny Kurfürst was taken into so-called “ protective custody ” by the Gestapo and released after four days. With this arrest, the National Socialists wanted to prevent members of the SPD and KPD from interfering with a speech by Adolf Hitler.
During the Second World War , Nanny Kurfürst belonged to a group of SPD members from Kiel who secretly met z. B. met in Emma Drewanz's gazebo. The Elector ran a tobacco shop in Kiel during the Second World War. In February 1945 Nanny Kurfürst died of cancer in a Schleswig hospital at the age of 52.
