Willem Andriessen

Willem Christiaan Nicolaas Andriessen (born October 25, 1887 in Haarlem , Netherlands , † March 29, 1964 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch composer and musician .

Like his brother Hendrik Andriessen , he graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatory , where he studied with Jean-Baptiste de Pauw and Bernard Zweers , among others . From 1910 to 1918 he was a lecturer at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague , from 1918 to 1924 at the Rotterdam Conservatory and most recently from 1924 to 1953 at the Conservatory in Amsterdam, from 1937 as director. He was a well-known interpreter of piano works by Beethoven and Schumann .

As a composer he preferred a late romantic style and created piano works, songs, two piano concertos and a mass.
