Willi Abt (born May 3, 1923 ; † March 27, 2013 ) was a player from SV Darmstadt 98 , who played 33 league games for the team from the stadium at Böllenfalltor in the 1950/51 round of the first-class South Football League . After relegation in 1951, the defender played with the "Lilien" until 1957 in the 2nd South League.

career

The defensive player who came to Darmstadt 98 via TSV Darmstadt (until 1947) reached the championship success with the blue-whites in the 1949/50 round in the amateur league of Hesse in front of Viktoria Aschaffenburg and thus made it into the promotion round to the Oberliga Süd. There the nineties prevailed against 1. FC Pforzheim, FV Union Böckingen and 1. FC Bamberg with 10: 2 points and thus made it to the Oberliga Süd. In the season of 18 of the 1950/51 round, Darmstadt debuted on August 20, 1950 with a 5-4 home win in front of 14,000 spectators against VfR Mannheim. The first away game on August 27 was followed by a 4-1 win at SSV Reutlingen and so the “Lilien” received the Karlsruhe district club VfB Mühlburg for their second home game on September 3 in front of 15,000 spectators. The game was lost with 0: 2 and the next home game immediately following on September 10th against the defending champion of SpVgg Fürth brought in 0: 3 in front of 20,000 spectators. In all four starting games, Willi Abt was on the defensive of the promoted team. In the course of the first half of the season, the team around record goalscorer Georg Reeg (15 goals) and the other regulars Werner Barth, Werner Böhmann, Erich Herder, Ludwig Herwig, Rudi Leichtlein, Karl Mühlbach, Hermann Schmidtner and Albert Thalheimer only managed to beat VfL Neckarau (1 : 0), FC Bayern Munich (3: 2) and Schwaben Augsburg (2: 1) double point wins, so that after 17 match days Darmstadt finished 14th with 13:21 points. Willi Abt had played all the first round matches. In the second half of the season he was missing only one game day and thus ended the association round 1950/51 with a 3-1 home win against FC Schweinfurt 05 after 33 league appearances on the final day of the round, April 29, 1951. Since the southern season was reduced from 18 to 16 clubs for the 1951/52 season, Abt rose with Darmstadt in fifteenth place in the table together with BC Augsburg, FC Singen 04 and SSV Reutlingen in the 2nd League South. A peculiarity took place in the away game on October 22, 1950 against the blue-blacks of SV Waldhof: Due to the dismissal of the keeper Hans Ruhl, at that time it was not allowed to be replaced, Willi Abt took the place between the posts of the Darmstadt goal . In fact, the field player mastered two penalties from the Waldhöfer, but ultimately could not prevent the 2: 7 defeat.

Willi Abt was active in Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd League South up to and including the round 1956/57, after which he ended his higher-class playing career.
