Willi Erkel (born September 11, 1913 in Saarbrücken , †  February 2, 2002 in Boppard ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Attending elementary school from 1919 to 1927 was followed by an apprenticeship as a machine fitter in Trier until 1931 , which he completed with a journeyman's examination. The unemployment in 1932 was followed from 1932 to 1933 a voluntary labor service in the Reich banner black-red-gold . From 1934 to 1945 he was a professional soldier in the Navy (most recently chief mechanic). After the war in 1945 he started working as an electrician for the Trier city ​​administration . From 1947 to 1969, Erkel worked as a hostel father in the German Youth Hostel Association in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Political party

Willi Erkel was a member of the SAJ from 1929 to 1933 and chairman of the SAJ Trier until 1930 as well as a member of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold. In 1945, Erkel was a co-founder of the SPD Trier-Stadt und -Land and district chairman of the SPD St. Goar. In addition, he was active on the district board of the SPD Rhineland / Hessen-Nassau and as managing director of the SPD district association Rhineland / Hessen-Nassau.

MP

Erkel was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament for the first time in the state elections in 1959 and belonged to it for four electoral periods (4th – 7th electoral period) from May 19, 1959 to May 17, 1971 and from August 26, 1971 to May 17 1975 on. In August 1971 he succeeded the late MP Walter Gorges . He was a member of the Petitions Committee in all terms . In the 6th electoral term he was also a secretary and member of the Committee on Agriculture and Viticulture.

In 1974 he was a member of the 6th Federal Assembly .

Communal activities

Erkel belonged to the city ​​council of Boppard and was second or first alderman of the city of Boppard as well as a member of the district committee St. Goar and the Rhein-Hunsrück district .

Other engagement

Erkel was chairman of the hostel parents 'association in Rhineland-Palatinate, chairman of the AWO district of St. Goar and from 1929 to 1933 a member of the German metal workers' association . In 1945 he was a co-founder of the ÖTV and a member of the State Youth Welfare Committee.
