The state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1959 took place on April 19.
Despite an absolute majority of the CDU prime minister sat Peter Altmaier the since June 1951 existing black-yellow coalition with the FDP continued. Opposition parties in the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate were the SPD and the DRP , which just overcame the five percent hurdle. Because of the regional key electoral procedure , she only entered the state parliament with one member ( Hans Schikora ).
