State election in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1967
The state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1967 took place on April 23. Only five parties ran for election: CDU , SPD , FDP , NPD and DFU . The CDU was able to expand its position as the strongest party, but narrowly missed an absolute majority. The FDP and SPD had to accept lost mandates. The NPD made it into the state parliament straight away and became the second opposition party alongside the SPD. The German Peace Union was the only party not to make the leap into the state parliament. The coalition of CDU and FDP led by Prime Minister Peter Altmeier was continued.

After the election
After the election, Peter Altmeier once again became Prime Minister. He formed the Altmeier VI cabinet . On May 19, 1969 sparked Helmut Kohl it off and then ruled until the fall of 1976 ( First Kohl cabinet , Second Kohl cabinet , Cabinet Kohl III ).
