To the context
Altmeier (* 1899) had been Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate since July 1947. Since March 1966, Altmeier was no longer the CDU state chairman , but Helmut Kohl . The party delegates had almost unanimously decided that Kohl should become Prime Minister "in due course". After pressure from within the party, Altmeier had to accept a cabinet list that contained almost all of Kohl's colleagues; they were just as young as Kohl (* 1930).
