Wilhelm "Willi" Färber (born October 23, 1911 in Augsburg ; † August 12, 1988 there ) was a German boxer .

Career

Färber's career began in 1929 when he joined an Augsburg boxing club. Two years later he emerged as the bantamweight winner at the 2nd Workers' Olympiad . In 1935 he became German amateur flyweight champion .

In 1948 Färber won the German flyweight championship by winning points over Hans Schiffers as a professional boxer. He then defended the title four times until he lost it to Victor Liwowski in 1950 . A fight for the German bantamweight championship against Hans Schömig ended in a draw in 1949.

Wilhelm Färber was also called "Leberhaken Willi", as he liked to beat his opponents with targeted hits on the liver.

After the end of his career as a boxer, he worked from 1951 to 1972 as a groundskeeper at the Augsburger Rosenaustadion . Then he was head of the boxing department at TSV Schwaben Augsburg until 1983 .
