Willi Foerster

Willi Foerster (born September 27, 1892 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber , † March 13, 1965 ibid) was a German painter .

Life

Foerster comes from a humble background and received drawing lessons from Arthur Wasse after finishing school . He attended technical schools for painting and photography in Munich and was there from 1908-1910 a student of Otto Ludwig Naegele . From 1919 he had his own studio on the Plönlein and created etchings , woodcuts , prints , and later watercolors and oil paintings .

He was an active member of the private music group, organizer of concerts, operas and operettas .

Foerster was one of the founders of the Rothenburg Artists' Association in 1923 alongside Peter Philippi and Wilhelm Schacht .

After the Second World War he was active as a monument conservationist, became chairman of the Rothenburg Artists' Association and a member of the Alt-Rothenburg Association. For his activities he received the Federal Cross of Merit and the Citizens Medal of the City of Rothenburg.

A narrow park outside the city wall between Rödertor and Ruckesserturm is named after Willi Foerster in Rothenburg ob der Tauber - the Willi-Foerster-Anlage.
