Otto Ludwig Naegele (born August 25, 1880 in Munich , † 1952 in Herrsching am Ammersee ) was a German graphic artist, illustrator, painter, co-founder and the first goalkeeper of FC Bayern Munich .

Live and act

Otto Ludwig Naegele studied at the art academies in Munich and Düsseldorf . In 1892 he joined the Luitpold Group artists' association . In 1905 he won a prize in the competition for advertising drafts for joint advertising by Ludwig Stollwerck and Otto Henkell . Other award winners were the artists Julius Diez , Eugen Kirchner, Friedrich Stahl, Albert Klingner, Ludwig Hohlwein , Fritz Klee, Bernhard Halbreiter, Elly Hirsch, Anton Kerschbaumer , Johann Baptist Maier , Georg v. Kürthy, Fritz Helmuth Ehmcke , Paul Leuteritz, Otto Kleinschmidt , Ulrich Hübner , Anton Hoffmann, Peter Würth, Ernst Oppler , A. Altschul, Ant. Jos. Pepins and August Geigenberger. In 1932 Naegele exhibited in the Düsseldorf-Munich art exhibition in the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf . He was one of the most sought-after commercial graphic artists before the First World War and, alongside Lucian Bernhard , Paul Scheurich and Ludwig Hohlwein, was one of the international "stars" of advertising design until the 1920s. His posters are influenced by Munich Art Nouveau . Naegele designed posters for the Isidor Bach department store in Munich, for the Hackerbrauerei , for the Munich Exhibition Park and numerous other Munich companies of the time.

Furthermore, like many other artists of his time, Naegele was also active in the design of metal type fonts in the course of the hybrid fonts that were created from 1900 (the so-called "New German Fonts"). To mark commercial commercial and art graphics, Naegele also used the monogram oNL as a signature . The Rothenburg artist Willi Foerster , who attended the technical schools for painting and photography in Munich from 1908 to 1910, is considered his student.

During his Munich studies, he joined the first soccer club in Munich, founded in 1896, called Terra Pila ; later he was active for the football department of MTV Munich 1879 until the beginning of 1900 . He was one of the eleven football players who, under the leadership of Franz John, left the football department of MTV 1879 Munich in the Gisela restaurant on February 27, 1900 and founded FC Bayern Munich . His regular position in the newly founded club was henceforth that of the goalkeeper , which he filled until 1903. He also held the position of second kit attendant. With Bayern he won the Munich city championship in 1902 and 1903 .

He also designed the second club badge for FC Bayern, which was valid from around 1902 until the merger with Munich SC in 1906.
