Willi Germund

Willi Germund , actually Wilhelm Germund , (* 1954 in the district town of Bergheim in North Rhine-Westphalia) is a German journalist .

Life

Willi Germund was born and raised in Bergheim, where he passed his matriculation examination at the Erftgymnasium there in 1973 . He then refused to do military service . He began his journalistic career in the Bergheimer local editorial office of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger before moving to Nicaragua as a sympathizer of the Sandinista regime .

From 1980 to 1990 worked Germund from Nicaragua as Latin America - correspondent for several German and Swiss regional and local newspapers. After another stint as a South Africa correspondent, he moved to India in 1996 and to Bangkok in 2001 to report on Central, South and Southeast Asia. During this time he continued to work for the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger and u. a. the Berliner Zeitung , Frankfurter Rundschau , Salzburger Nachrichten , the Basler Zeitung and the Jüdische Allgemeine .

With an autobiographical book published in 2015, he triggered widespread media coverage, as he described how he bought a kidney through an organ dealer operating beyond legality . According to its own information, Germund paid a sum of 30,000 euros for the organ.

He defended his approach in the talk show Markus Lanz (ZDF, January 15, 2015) and in the ARD program “Brisant” (February 16, 2015). The community of interests living kidney donation e. V. (IGN) filed a criminal complaint with the Verden (Aller) public prosecutor's office on February 12, 2015 for illegal organ trafficking. The proceedings were closed in 2016.
