Willi Knecht (* 1947 in Herxheim near Landau / Pfalz ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian.

Life

Knecht has been associated with the diocese of Cajamarca in Peru since 1976 and initially worked as a pastoral officer in the parish of Bambamarca. Most recently, from 1997 to 2003, he worked with Elmar Klinger and Ottmar Fuchs on a DFG study on the church changes in Peru since 1962.

His latest book was published in November 2005, The Church of Cajamarca. The challenge of an option for the poor . In it he depicts Cajamarca with his bishop José Antonio Dammert Bellido as a diocese in which the “spirit of the council ” was put into practice as an example . He makes further publications (including on the disputes about the most profitable gold mine in the world in Cajamarca and the current course of church leadership in Peru) available on his website.
