Willi Stöhr (born November 6, 1903 in Elberfeld , † after 1994 ) was a German politician and Gauleiter of the NSDAP . Occasionally his last name is also spelled Stohr . This notation is likely to come from English translations.

Life

The son of a writer attended elementary school, middle school and high school. Until 1932 Stöhr studied economics in Cologne and Frankfurt am Main , where he interrupted his studies for a commercial activity. Because of his participation in university riots, he was de-registered by the University of Frankfurt in 1932. He then worked as a businessman. Stöhr married in 1943.

Stöhr was already active as a National Socialist in 1922 and joined the NSDAP in Elberfeld in 1923 . After the party was banned, he rejoined the NSDAP and the National Socialist German Student Union (NSDStB) and the SA in 1929 . He also appeared as a speaker for the NSDStB. In 1932 and 1933 Stöhr was NSDAP local group leader in Frankfurt.

After the transfer of power to the National Socialists, Stöhr was appointed Oberbannführer of the Hitler Youth and city councilor in Frankfurt in 1933 . He also acted from 1933 to 1937 as a district inspector in the Hessen-Nassau district and adjutant to the district leader Jakob Sprenger . In 1935 he was appointed to the Prussian Provincial Council in the province of Hessen-Nassau . In February 1935 he replaced Heinrich Philipp Reutlinger , who had resigned, in the National Socialist Reichstag, to which he belonged until the end of the Nazi era. From July 1937 to January 1944 Stöhr was Gau propaganda leader and head of the Reich Propaganda Office for the Gau Hessen-Nassau. In 1940 he did military service in France in a propaganda company . On January 1, 1944, Stöhr was transferred to the party chancellery in Munich in order to be trained for higher party tasks.

On September 8, 1944, Stöhr was appointed as the Gauleiter's representative and Reich Defense Commissioner for the fortification in Gau Westmark . After the death of the Gauleiter of the Westmark, Josef Bürckel , he was entrusted with the management of the Gau on September 29, 1944, and on January 31, 1945 he was appointed Gauleiter of the Westmark.

At the end of March 1945 Stöhr fled with the Gauleitung from the Allied troops across the Rhine. Presumably he went into hiding at times under a false name.
