Willi Teichmann

Erwin Heinz Teichmann (born February 14, 1916 in Nowawes ; † June 24, 1979 in Potsdam ) was a German film production manager at DEFA .

Live and act

The son of a locksmith had gone through an apprenticeship after his primary school completion, before he in 1935 as manager of the UFA has been set. When war broke out in 1939, Teichmann was drafted and was taken prisoner at the end of the war.

Dismissed again, DEFA took him over on February 17, 1947. Initially, he worked as a unit manager on well-known productions such as Wozzeck , Rotation and Der Biberpelz . At the beginning of the 1950s, he was promoted to production manager.

For the GDR state company, he produced the first film in this role with Der Untertan , which was also the most important work of his entire career. Until he moved to the West, Teichmann remained connected to the "Untertan" director Wolfgang Staudte . He then produced films from other directors until shortly before his death (above all Richard Groschopps ).

Teichmann also worked sporadically for GDR television (such as Escape from Hell or Im Schlaraffenland ) .
