William Bertram

Sir William Bertram , of Bothal Castle , († 1466 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir William was a son of Sir John Bertram.

In 1447 he became Warden and Governor of the Isles and thus administrator of the English Islands in the English Channel. Bertram also represented Northumberland County in Parliament in 1449 and 1450 as Knight of the Shire and was appointed Sheriff of Northumberland in 1458 . Sir William was entrusted with the border security in 1457 and 1459 as Justice of Array and in 1458 commissioner with the drafting and drafting of archers.

William Bertram was a supporter of the House of Lancaster and fought for Henry VI. during the Wars of the Roses at the Battle of Wakefield (1460), at St Albans and Towton (1461). In Wakefield, William Bertram received the accolade as a Knight Bachelor by Henry Percy , 3rd Earl of Northumberland .

After losing at Towton on March 29, 1461, Sir William was not held accountable for his struggle against the House of York .

Sir William died in 1466.

Marriage and offspring

Sir William was married to a daughter of Sir Thomas Kempston.
