William Broeksmit

William Shaw Broeksmit (born November 1955 in Chicago , † January 26, 2014 in London ) was an American bank manager who most recently worked in a managerial capacity for Deutsche Bank .

Life

Broeksmit was born and raised in Chicago as the son of pastor John Shaw Broeksmit, Jr. (* 1920 - August 22, 2011) and Jane Murray Broeksmit. He has a sister, Laura Broeksmit Downing, and four brothers, Peter, John, Samuel, and Robert Broeksmit. He studied at the Lake Forest Academy (until 1973), where his father taught from 1967 to 1972, and at Claremont McKenna College (until 1977). In 1982 he received an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University .

He started his banking career at the Continental Illinois National Bank in Chicago. In 1984 he moved to Merrill Lynch . In the mid-1990s he built up the derivatives business there together with Anshu Jain . In 1996 he moved to Deutsche Bank, which under Edson Mitchell greatly expanded its capital market business. Shortly after his death in 2000, he left Deutsche Bank. In 2008 he returned as Head of Portfolio Risk Optimization. In 2012 he was to succeed Hugo Bänziger as Chief Risk Officer, which the Bafin refused to do . He then worked as head of capital and risk optimization in investment banking. He retired in February 2013, but continued to act as an advisor to the bank for a few months.

After confessing to a psychologist his fear of a state investigation at the financial institution, he hanged himself on January 26, 2014 in his home in London.

The Broeksmit Family Foundation is the 'Platinum Patron' of the Tate Gallery of Modern Art . The Broeksmit couple were members of the Photography Acquisitions Committee. The foundation also supported the Whitney Museum of American Art , Brick Church in New York and Northwestern University in 2012 .

Private

William Broeksmit was married to Alla Broeksmit (* 1957) and had a son (* 1976) and two daughters (* February 16, 1987).
