William Michael Connolley (born April 12, 1964 ) is a British computer scientist, author and blogger. Until 2007 he was employed as a climate modeler for the British Antarctic Survey .

background

Connolley graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in Numerical Analysis.

Political activities

Connolley was a councilor for Coton near Cambridge until May 2007 and applied through the Green Party to the District Council of South Cambridgeshire .

activities

In the field of climate research, Connolley pointed out, among other things, that as early as the 1970s, most climate predictions predicted global warming and not a new ice age. Until 2007 he was an active contributor to the RealClimate blog.

His work as a climate expert at Wikipedia was mentioned in Nature 2005 , among others . According to Connolley, frustrations were inevitable, but existing conflicts also add to item quality. In July 2006, Connolley and his collaboration with Wikipedia were discussed in an interview with The New Yorker , including restrictions imposed on him such as the withdrawal of his admin function and occasional editing requirements.

Harsh criticism, including the claim that Connolley was largely responsible for manipulating opinion in climate-related articles on English-language Wikipedia, was expressed by Lawrence Solomon in the conservative National Review .
