William D. Cochran

William D. Cochran (* 1950 ) is an American astronomer .

Cochran received his BA in 1972 from Duke University . In 1976 he received his Ph.D. from Princeton University. PhD. Cochran's main research interests are the search for exoplanets , high-precision measurements of changes in radial velocities in stars, variable stars , planetary atmospheres, comets and asteroids .

He discovered several exoplanets, including:

Cochran is currently at the University of Texas at Austin .

The asteroid (4551) Cochran bears his name.
