William Darwin Fox

William Darwin Fox (born April 23, 1805 , † April 8, 1880 in Sandown , Isle of Wight ) was an English clergyman and naturalist. He was a great cousin of Charles Darwin .

Live and act

William Darwin Fox was a son of Samuel Fox (1765-1851) and his second wife Ann Darwin (1777-1859). He attended school in Repton and enrolled on January 26, 1824 at Christ's College of Cambridge University one. 1828 he encounters here Charles Darwin, from his enthusiasm for entomology was infected and he and John Stevens Henslow made known. Fox graduated from Baccalaureus Artium in 1829 and Magister Artium in 1833 . On March 11, 1834, he married Harriet Fletcher (1799–1842), a daughter of Sir Richard Fletcher (1768–1813). 1838 Fox Rector in Delamere in the county of Cheshire . After the death of his wife, he married Ellen Sophia Woodd on May 20, 1846. In 1873 health problems forced him to give up his post as Rector of Delamere. Fox moved to Sandown on the Isle of Wight , where he died in 1880.

With his great cousin Charles Darwin he maintained an extensive exchange of ideas by letter until the end of his life.
