William Droegemueller

William Droegemueller ( William Herbert "Bill" Droegemueller ; born October 7, 1906 in Chicago , † February 23, 1987 in Sun City , Arizona ) was an American pole vaulter .

In 1927 he was starting NCAA champions for Northwestern University .

In the following year he qualified with his personal best of 4.19 m as US runner-up for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. There he won the silver medal with 4.10 m behind his compatriot Sabin Carr (4.20 m) and in front of Charles McGinnis , who completed a US triple success with 3.95 m.

William Droegemueller worked as an ophthalmologist after completing his studies .
