William Edward Soothill
William Edward Soothill (born January 23, 1861 in Halifax , Yorkshire , † May 14, 1935 ) was an English missionary and sinologist .
biography
William Edward Soothill was a Methodist missionary in China . He later became a professor of Chinese at Oxford University and a leading British sinologist . In 1884 he married Lucy Farrar. She wrote an account of her years in China called A Passport to China .
