William Faulkes

George William Henry Faulkes (born November 4, 1863 in Liverpool , † January 25, 1933 there ) was an English organist , pianist and composer .

Life

Faulkes received his first musical training from his sister and, from the age of ten, as a chorister at St. Margaret's Church in Anfield, Liverpool. He was organ and theory student of the choirmaster Henry Ditton-Newman and received further lessons from the Liverpool organist and composer William Dawson. From 1882 to 1886 Faulkes was organist at the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Liverpool . From 1886 he was organist and choirmaster at St. Margaret's Church in Anfield and from 1908 conductor of the Anfield Orchestral Society. As a composer, Faulkes was in contact with the organist and composer William Thomas Best , who had an important influence on him. In addition to his work as a composer, organist and choir director, Faulkes also occasionally performed at piano concerts.

Works

His compositions include over 400 organ works and 50 songs a. a. a piano concerto in C minor (1891), a violin concerto in A minor (1892), as well as several piano and numerous chamber music works for various ensembles.
