William Garth Morrison

Sir William Garth Morrison , KT , CBE , DL (born April 8, 1943 in Edinburgh - † May 24, 2013 in West Fenton , East Lothian ) was a British landowner and boy scout functionary. From 1988 to 1996 he was Chief Scout of the Scout Association in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland .

Life

Morrison attended Pangbourne College and entered the Britannia Royal Navy College in Dartmouth in 1962 . He then studied at Pembroke College , Cambridge, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966 . He married in July 1970. Morrison was a soldier in the Royal Navy for 12 years and served as an engineer officer; in 1973 he retired as a lieutenant. After leaving the Royal Navy in 1973, he took over the 230 hectare family estate in West Fenton, Scotland.

In 1981 he became Chief Commissioner of the Scout Association for Scotland. He was Deputy Head of the British Contingent for the 16th World Scout Jamboree in Australia in 1987.

In 1984, Morrison was appointed Deputy Lieutenant in East Lothian by Queen Elizabeth II and on July 30, 2001, Lord Lieutenant .
