William Gascoyne-Cecil
Lord Rupert Ernest William Gascoyne-Cecil (born March 9, 1863 in Hatfield House , Hertfordshire , † June 23, 1936 ) was a British nobleman and Anglican theologian . He was Bishop of Exeter in the Church of England from 1916 to 1936 .
He was the second son of British Prime Minister Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury , and Georgina Alderson. He attended Eton College and graduated from the University College of Oxford University as a Doctor of Divinity from.
In 1887 he was ordained a priest . From 1887 to 1888 he was assistant priest ( curate ) in Great Yarmouth in Norfolk and from 1888 to 1916 parish priest ( rector ) of Bishop's Hatfield in Hertfordshire. In addition, he was from 1904 to 1916 Country Dean ( Rural Dean ) of Hertfordshire. In 1909 he became honorary court chaplain for King Edward VII and in 1910 honorary canon of St. Albans .
In 1916 he finally became Bishop of Exeter and held that office until his death in 1936.
On August 16, 1887, he married Lady Florence Mary Bootle-Wilbraham, daughter of Edward Bootle-Wilbraham, 1st Earl of Lathom . With her he had four sons and three daughters.
