William Hamilton (theologian)
William Hamilton (born March 9, 1924 in Evanston , Illinois , † February 28, 2012 in Portland , Oregon ) was a Protestant American theologian and author .
Life
Hamilton studied Protestant theology at Oberlin College and Union Theological Seminary . After graduating, he got a job as a professor of religion at Colgate Rochester Divinity School . Later in life, he was a professor of religion at Portland State University . As an author, he wrote several books and wrote articles for various theological journals. In the 1960s he became a proponent of God-is-dead theology , which included Protestant theologians Thomas Jonathan Jackson Altizer , Gabriel Vahanian , Paul van Buren and Rabbi Richard Rubenstein . On the US television channel CBS , he received a television program in which religions were presented and explained.
