William Haomae

William Ni'i Haomae (born November 26, 1960 in Mou Village, Small Malaita, Malaita Province ) is a Solomonic politician .

biography

After attending school and further training at the East-West Center Honolulu , he entered the government service of the Solomon Islands and initially worked as an information officer in the Prime Minister's office, before he was then press secretary to the Prime Minister. After working for the Foreign Office on foreign news, he returned to the Prime Minister's office as Director of the Information Department.

Haomae began his political career on May 26, 1993 when he was first elected as a member of the National Parliament ( National Parliament of the Solomon Islands ) as a candidate for the People's Progressive Party (PPP) . In the elections of August 6, 1997 and April 5, 2006, he was re-elected and is representative of the constituency Small Malaita .

In 1994 he was appointed Minister of Culture, Tourism and Aviation by Prime Minister Solomon Mamaloni and held this post until the end of Mamaloni's term on August 5, 1997. From July 2000 to January 2001, he was initially Minister of Police and Justice in the cabinet of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare . He later appointed him from August to December 2001 as Deputy Prime Minister. In this role, Haomae was also acting Minister for National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace. From April 21 to May 4, 2006, he was Minister for Police and National Security in the briefly incumbent cabinet of Prime Minister Snyder Rini .

In August 2007 he requested a motion of no-confidence in parliament against the incumbent Prime Minister Sogavare, but this was rejected as inadmissible by the Speaker of Parliament (Speaker) Sir Peter Kenilorea .

On December 22, 2007, he was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration in his government by the new Prime Minister Derek Sikua . In October 2008 there was diplomatic resentment after Prime Minister Sikua snubbed Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in press reports . Haomae dismissed these press reports as a lie.

In his role as Foreign Minister, he took part in a Joint Assembly of the European Union with the ACP States in Prague in April 2009 as acting chairman of the ACP Council of Ministers and was chairman of the 89th meeting of the ACP Council of Ministers in May 2009 .
