William Harrison Graham

William Harrison Graham (born August 3, 1844 in Allegheny , Allegheny County , Pennsylvania , †  March 2, 1923 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1898 and 1903 and again from 1905 to 1911 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Graham attended public schools in his homeland. During the Civil War he served in a West Virginia cavalry unit in the Union Army until 1864 . Then he worked in the leather industry in his home country. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1875 and 1878 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; from 1882 to 1891 he was a notary ( Recorder of Deeds ) in Allegheny County. He also got into banking.

After the resignation of MP William A. Stone , Graham was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the by-election for the 23rd seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on November 29, 1898. After two re-elections, he could remain there until March 3, 1903. In 1902 he was not reconfirmed.

In the congressional elections of 1904 , Graham was re-elected to the US House of Representatives in the 29th  constituency of his state, where he succeeded George Shiras on March 4, 1905 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911 . From 1907 to 1909 he was chairman of the Committee on Ventilation and Acoustics ; from 1909 he headed the Ministry of Agriculture's Expenditures Control Committee.

In 1910, William Graham failed in his party's primary election. After his tenure ended, he was a member of the Allegheny County Board of Viewers between 1911 and 1923 . He died on March 2, 1923 in Pittsburgh, where he was also buried.
