William Hutt

William Ian DeWitt Hutt , CC , O.Ont (born May 2, 1920 in Toronto , Ontario , † June 27, 2007 in Stratford ) was a Canadian film and stage actor.

Life

Hutt was born in Toronto, the second of three children. During the Second World War he worked as a doctor for five years, for which he was awarded a medal of bravery. After the war he studied at the University of Toronto . In 1953 he was a member of the first season of the Stratford Festival of Canada .

He appeared in film and television in roles such as Le Moyne in The Statement, as well as in other television roles.

His last public role was the Prospero in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest . Actually, he was supposed to appear again in 2007 at the Stratford Festival, but he could no longer take on the role due to his health condition.

Hutt, who had leukemia , died peacefully on June 27, 2007 in Stratford, Ontario.
