William Maxwell, 3rd Baronet (of Springkell)
Sir William Maxwell, 3rd Baronet ( December 1, 1739 - March 4, 1804 ), was a Scottish - British nobleman .
He was the eldest son of Sir William Maxwell, 2nd Baronet , from his second marriage to Catherine Douglas, daughter of Sir William Douglas, 2nd Baronet. On the death of his father on July 14, 1760, he inherited his lands including the family estate Springkell House in Dumfriesshire , as well as the title of Baronet , of Springkell in the County of Dumfries, which his grandfather Patrick Maxwell on February 7, 1683 in the Baronage of Nova Scotia (around 1640-1723) had been awarded.
On March 26, 1764, he married Margaret Stewart, daughter of Sir Michael Stewart, 3rd Baronet. He had two children with her:
- Catharine Maxwell (1767-1849) ⚭ Sir Michael Shaw-Stewart, 5th Baronet (1766-1825);
- Lt.-Gen. Sir John Heron-Maxwell, 4th Baronet († 1812) ⚭ Mary Heron.
