William McGinnis
William J. McGinnis (* 1952 ) is an American molecular biologist who discovered the Hox genes , which control embryonic development in vertebrates .
Life
McGinnis graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1982 with a Ph.D. afterwards he went to the University of Basel as a postdoc . From 1984 to 1995 he was a professor at Yale University , since then he has been at the University of San Diego . In 2010 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and in 2019 to the National Academy of Sciences .
