William Patrick Auld

William Patrick Auld, 1880

William Patrick Auld (born May 27, 1840 in Stalybridge (England), † September 2, 1912 in Adelaide ) was an Australian winemaker, wine merchant and explorer. He was the son of Patrick Auld.

Life

He took part in the 6th research expedition led by John McDouall Stuart (December 1861 - December 1862), which successfully crossed Australia from south to north. He was also a member of the Boyle Finniss and Frederick Henry Litchfield expedition in 1864 to select a capital for the Northern Territory . During this expedition an incident occurred that led to Aulds being charged with the murder of an Aboriginal man .

For many years he managed his father's Auldana vineyard and was valued as a winemaker and wine connoisseur.
