William Ralph Taylor
William Ralph Taylor (born 1919 in Spring Hill , Kansas, † November 7, 2004 in Huntingtown , Maryland) was an American ichthyologist .
Career
From 1938 to 1947 Taylor attended the University of Kansas , interrupted by World War II , where he served in the US Air Force. He then studied at the University of Michigan the North American catfish of the genus Noturus , of which he later scientifically described a total of ten species . In 1951 he obtained his M.Sc. and in 1956 his Ph.D. Taylor was also interested in the marine addition to the North American catfish Cross catfish .
From 1956 until his retirement in 1979 he worked as a curator for fish at the National Museum of Natural History , where he first evaluated the fish (around 30,000 specimens) collected by Robert Rush Miller's American-Australian Arnhem Land expedition in 1948 and published the results in 1964 . He published five articles on zoological nomenclature in the Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature . He performed important work as a curator with the optimization of the methods of preparation and conservation of fish, which he published in four articles.
