William Roper (musician)

William "Bill" Roper (* 14. April 1955 ) is an American jazz - tuba (also vocals , kudu, Percussion, Shofar, Gong) and composer .

Live and act

From the 1980s onwards, Roper worked in the field of classical and jazz music as well as theater and dance music. He has received several composition grants, including a. by Meet the Composer and the California Arts Council . In 2000 he received a scholarship from the Djerassi Institute. In the field of jazz, Roper participated in over sixty recording sessions from 1986, including with Bobby Bradford , Yusef Lateef , Vinny Golia , Glenn Horiuchi , Clay Jenkins , John Rapson , Kim Richmond , Horace Tapscott and Michael Vlatkovich . As a studio musician, he also worked for Elton John and Hans Zimmer . In 2002 he released the album Roper's Darn! Yarns , followed by If I Ran The Circus: Compositions by William Roper . He is co-founder of Judicanti Responsura , a tuba and percussion ensemble that deals with contemporary and improvised music. Roper lives in Los Angeles.
