The William Scoresby Bay is a bay on the coast of the East Antarctic Kemplands . It is located on the west side of the William Scoresby Archipelago . Its hinterland is characterized by steep and rocky headlands and snow-free hills with heights of up to 210 m . Due to the ice, their limit is actually 6.5 km north of the mainland coast and is determined by groups of islands at the eastern and western ends.
The bay was discovered in February 1936 by scientists from the British Discovery Investigations on board the research vessel RRS William Scoresby , after which it is also named. The ship is named after the British navigator and Arctic explorer William Scoresby (1789–1857).
