William Sterrett Ramsey

William Sterrett Ramsey (born June 12, 1810 in Carlisle , Pennsylvania , †  October 17, 1840 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American politician . In 1839 and 1840 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Ramsey enjoyed a classical education at Dickinson College in Carlisle and later in England , where he then worked as an employee at the American embassy. Politically, he only appeared as a member of the Democratic Party at the end of the 1830s .

In the congressional elections of 1838 Ramsey was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Charles McClure on March 4, 1839 . In 1840 he was re-elected. At that time he was already suffering from liver disease. A few days after his re-election, William Ramsey committed suicide in a Baltimore hotel.
