William Stuart Symington (born February 6, 1870 - February 19, 1926 ) was an American Romance philologist .

life and work

Symington grew up in Baltimore , did his doctorate with John Ernst Matzke at Johns Hopkins University with a thesis on French customs (including May Day), went with his teacher to Stanford University and was professor of Romance languages ​​at Amherst from 1895 to 1903 College .
